Site-Specific Playwriting Class
Class runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 2 weeks from 6pm to 8pm. Dates are: July 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, & 21.
Description: Learn the basic fundamentals of writing a 10 minute site-specific play using 2-3 characters through a table workshop series and lecture. This course teaches basic concepts of playwriting, with an emphasis on site-specific storytelling and structure. Students will learn how core concepts of plot, character, and conflict can be used to tell universal stories, as well as express ones personal vision. Through readings, discussions, and writing assignments, students will practice key skills, including how to use the written word to express theatrical elements within site-specific spaces. Class meetings will consist of lectures and discussions, centered on particular aspects of the craft of playwriting, as well as workshops of student scripts. Upon completion of this course, each student will have written multiple site-specific play synopses and outlines, as well as one 10- minute play that collectively demonstrates working knowledge and practical application of the central topics of this class.
