Batizado 2012
ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco, under the direction of its founder Mestranda Marcia "Cigarra", celebrates its 21st annual Baitzado Ceremony. The batizado, or baptism, is a traditional capoeira ceremony in which new students are initiated into the world of capoeira. The new student receives a capoeira nickname and plays with a Master or instructor, symbolically welcoming them into the capoeira community. This year, ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco is honored to welcome our special guest Mestre Camisa, a student of the revered Mestre Bimba and founder of ABADÁ-Capoeira worldwide. Other guests include Mestre Acordeon of United Capoeira Association in Berkeley, also a student of Mestre Bimba, and guests from other ABADÁ-Capoeira schools around the globe including Mestranda Edna Lima (New York), Professores Mobília (Rio de Janeiro), Brucutú (Madrid) and Yara (Washington DC) and other instructors from Brazil, New York, Vancouver, Montreal, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Japan.
