Sihasin performance hosted by Taina Asili
Join us for a performance and talk by renowned international touring band Sihasin of the Navajo (Dine) Nation. The event is hosted by Taina Asili and sponsored by the Arts In Action Committee of CAAMI.
Sihasin will speak about their work in social justice and the arts (for the protection of Native American sacred sites, native rights, and environmental justice), followed by a powerful performance.
Monday, July 17th at 7pm at The Post Contemporary $10 (proceeds will go to Sihasin and the Arts In Action Committee to support their important social justice work)
Sihasin is a rock band featuring brother and sister, Jeneda and Clayson Benally of the Navajo (Dine) Nation in Northern Arizona. They have created their own unique brand of music with bass and drums, blending powerful rock with traditional Dine' sounds. They grew up protesting the environmental degradation and inhumane acts of cultural genocide against their traditional way of life. Their music reflects hope for equality, healthy and respectful communities and social and environmental justice. They will be arriving in Troy just after returning from a tour in Europe and will be heading to perform at Grassroots Festival later that week. http://sihasin.com/
The Arts In Action Committee of Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration is a collective of artists and community organizers working to use the power of the arts to fight against mass incarceration and state violence.
