Who: Diane Cluck!
DIANE CLUCK is a singer-songwriter of intuitive folk music based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her vocal style has been noted for its distinctly clipped, glottal beauty, and described as an unlikely mix of Aaron Neville, the Baka people, and Joni Mitchellunaffected yet unusual. (NPR)
Diane contributed to New Yorks burgeoning Antifolk scene in the early 2000s alongside artists such as Jeffrey Lewis, Adam Green, and Kimya Dawson. Shes traded harmonies and toured with CocoRosie (who released her Countless Times album) and shared stages with a wonderful diversity of artists including The National, Regina Spektor, Yoko Ono, Genesis P-Orridge, John Zorn, My Brightest Diamond, Devendra Banhart, Josephine Foster, Cass McCombs, Little Wings, Rain Machine (Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio), Rajasthan Roots, Daniel Johnston and Herman Dune. Singer-songwriters Laura Marling, Florence Welch (of Florence And The Machine), and Sharon Van Etten have all cited Dianes work as influential.
Diane is currently fulfilling her Song-of-the-Week projecta fan-funded subscription run through her website (http://dianecluck.info/sotw-songs) in which she writes, records and delivers new songs to subscribers.
Diane accompanies herself on various instruments including guitar, piano, harmonium, zither, toy accordion, and a copper pipe instrument she built by hand. She employs singing as a healing, textural experience in which her audience may wander, ponder, or simply be.
