Taking Stock: The Eat Good Food Pantry
18 Reasons Mondays, January 14 and February 11, 6:30-9PM, Ticketed Taking Stock: The Eat Good Food Pantry $100 for 18 Reasons members; $120 for the general public (for both classes)
So, you read the grocery chapter in Eat Good Food and want to put it into action? Join Bi-Rite Market's grocery buyers Raph Mogannam and Alli Ball for a month of pantry education. We'll show you why we suggest having two olive oils but no canola oil, and why we like anchovies packed in salt and only some canned tuna.
During this two-session tasting and conversation class you will learn the Bi-Rite approach to stocking a home pantry (through the eyes of the people who stock the grocery shelves!). We'll show you that you can stock your pantry in such a way that you save money, waste less, support great small businesses, AND can make delicious food any night without buying a thing. Each class will be a combination of comparative tasting exercises, food system education, and recipe building. Participants must sign up for both classes, and there is a month of homework (it's fun!) so that by the end you will look at a bag of beans in a whole new way.
Schedule January 14 Introduction to the Eat Good Food pantry philosophy. Tasting of oils, vinegars, grains, pastas and beans.
February 11 Homework review. Tasting of salts, mustards, capers, nuts, canned fish, broths and bouillon.
