Dec 8th (really the 9th cos whos going to sleep anyway) 430am til........... 1st tier $15, $20 afterwards.
happening at Brooklyn Urban dZong aka BUZ
ssssssssssh. sound powered by Silent Disco NYC. 2 DJs playing at the same damn time! on 2 different channels on your headphones...
sunrise breakfast by Mario. if you know Mario you know this shit ain't no joke!
Rituals can be different things to different people. Religious. Serious. Official. You probably won't see any of that at this particular shindig.
There is one Ritual however that I very much endorse. And that is Dancing. Its a pure form of expression that's in every culture and has been around for the span of human history. (Note to NYC's caberet laws: Dancing is not a fucking crime.)
To assist with this I've rounded up a syndicate of some of the best under and overground DJs in this 2 horse town.
Still Life (Worldwide Smash on EVR, Str8 West Coastin') Eko (Soultronica, Paleta) Thornato, Atropolis, 2melo 3x tag team (Cumba Mela, BomBeat) Nickodemus (Turntables on the Hudson, BomBeat) Nappy G (Turntables on the Hudson) and $mall ¢hange (No Parking, WFMU, Rubulad)
Rituals happen all over the world and expect to hear a soundtrack to reflect that. Different rhythms, different tempos, different eras, but all quality. btw this is a SILENT DISCO, which means everyone will be listening on headphones which have 2 channels. Hence we will have 2 DJs playing at the same damn time!
We have a limited amount of headsets so there will be a limited amount of tickets. We will sell 100 tickets online and have some available at the door. The 1st tier of 50 will be $15, and $20 after that (also at the door). If you want to guarantee a headset I would advise getting a ticket in advance.
Breakfast by Mario. This dude is utterly ridiculous. His specialty french toast, candied bacon and fruit salad will be avail as the sun rises.
your selectahs for the morning:
Still LIfe is the host of Worldwide Smash on East Village Radio...check the archives for some of the best in bass and tropical muzak happening now and tons of great guests. Still Life and I also do the monthly Jackpot at the Commodore and he throws a fine west coast hip hop party called Str8 West Coastin' with DJ Eleven and Dopeshoes. http://soundcloud.com/djstilllife
Eko held down radio and club gigs for well over a decade in SF before moving here. She's plays very eclectic and can be found throwing down at Bembe, Project Parlor, East Village Radio, and many years on the playa. Tropical bass, future soul and beyond. www.ekogirl.com/
Cumba Mela has been busy in NYC and beyond (India, Colombia, etc). A trio of dudes from Queens but don't hold that against them. Last summer they had a string of gigs opening up for Beats Antique and keep very busy in NYC. Representing the best in worldwide sounds with the dancefloor always in mind. Check their recent EP and their new party with Nickodemus called BomBeat. http://www.cumbamela.com/
Nickodemus. Speaking of this guy, where to start. Besides BomBeat Nico has run Turntables on the Hudson for well over a decade. if you live in NYC and don't know it by now yer def sleeping. Or if you're not in NYC you can catch his sets around the globe from Moscow to Montevideo. He runs Wonderwheel records, and his latest LP is Moon People. I first saw Nico back in the day at Giant Step where he was a resident, he's def paid his dues to be where he is. Also a complete pizza freak. http://www.nickodemus.com/
Nappy G is a the longtime percussionist for Turntables on the Hudson, also one of the founders of Groove Collective and has been DJing in NYC for a long minute. Always a stone (and stoned) groove, with music knowledge and stories for days. Ask him about shooting a video with Curtis Mayfield. I've spun with him around xmas many times to celebrate the life and music of James Brown...looking forward again this year! http://www.nappyg.com/
$mall ¢hange...shit what don't you know by now? WFMU, Rubulad, burningmanland, etc etc and then some. and just FYI, for me the term Ritual (more than anything) means a really stupidly dope brazilian latin funk record recorded in Belgium in the early 70s by this cat Nico Gomez. First one that comes up to me when I play Mr. Gomez during my set gets a free bottle of champale!! radio archives at: http://wfmu.org/playlists/nd website: http://djsmallchange.com
the venue:
Nestled in the middle of the crooklyn jungle, Brooklyn Urban dZong has been providing much needed shelter for rare species of music forward club goers, dancers, hippie freaks and the now endangered candy raver for a minute now. A very comfortable space with plent of room to dance or chillax, whatever your pleasure. As Guncle sez, "One of the things that I love about BUZ, is when the sun comes up and everyone is bathed in this wonderful dawn light. No matter how tired or messy one might be - practically everyone looks fabulous. We all have a certain grace at that hour." No doubt haha!
