JACK Quartet "In the Dark"
Written in 2001, Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas has one very specific stage direction for his Quartet No. 3, "In iij. Noct.", it must be performed in total darkness. Haas plunges the audience into the mysterious darkness of his String Quartet No. 3, eliminating the audience's visual relationship to the performers and the space in order to stimulate the aural imagination. As the musicians unleash ghostly microtones and chords, a quotation from Renaissance master Carlo Gesualdo shine out like beacons in this work based on the Tenebrae service of Holy Week. The JACK Quartet offers its "mind-blowingly good" (LA Times) rendition of this exceptional contemporary work.
Concert is approximately 50 minutes. Due to the nature of the work LATE SEATING CANNOT BE ACCOMMODATED and a very limited number of tickets are available for this concert event. You must arrive before the start time to be admitted. Ticket price includes post concert reception for the artists.
