Join us for a driving tour of three local farms about an hour west of St. Louis. You may plan your own picnic or indulge in a catered lunch. Plan ahead and you can wrap up with a cool swim at a private lake. We'll email you detailed directions and information after you purchase tickets. Space is limited. Get your tickets before July 7th.
Meet the farmers and get a personal tour of the property to see up close and personal the people and properties that bring all the delicious foods and beautiful flowers to the farmers markets in St. Louis.
Sunflower Savannah Farm Beaufort - Walk among grazing sheep down to their 1.5 acre lake for a refreshing swim at tour's end. You can explore the gardens - with heirloom tomatoes, among other produce -- the high tunnel and the barn, with Cayuga ducks and St. Croix sheep.
From Sam: The thing that is most important to us on the farm is Sustainability. Everything has a job and creates a circle that revolves back to life. We use a lot of reclaimed materials to create the things that don't happen naturally, such as the greenhouse and high tunnel.
Flower Hill Farm, Beaufort - This 35 acre 'pollinator sanctuary' has tons of bees, and rows and rows of gorgeous flowers. You can pick your own (bring your own snippers!) and 'bouquet buffet' (for purchase), cherry tomatoes, basil, zinnia and basil seedlings (for purchase) at their farm stand, picnic area, children's activities.
Rosy Buck Farm, Beaufort - Free-range chickens! You'll also be able to explore the garden with squash, tomatoes, beans, peppers, eggplant, melon, cukes, etc in the field, as well as some of our stranger crops like ground cherries, radish pods, and huckleberries. Some or all of these will be for sale in their farm stand, as well as sprouts and kombucha.
From Holly and Randy: We have built our business model around soil health and sustainability. Striving towards this goal has led us to a system of small circular garden plots of raised beds. This is for a variety of reasons - the areas in between the circles are a good source of mulch for us, we can run our chickens in one circle at a time to take care of weeds and deposit manure, the area in between is also a good habitat for pollinators, and then if we have a crop like squash in a few different circles, we can keep diseases or pests from spreading.
