MONDO GENERATOR LORD HOWLER REVENGE DEATH BALL FANTASY ARCADE $10 IN ADVANCE / $12 DAY OF SHOW DOORS: 8 PM / SHOW: 9 PM
MONDO GENERATOR: Mondo Generator was formed in 1997 by Queens of the Stone Age bassist/singer Nick Oliveri. Initially intended as a solo/side project, the classic "Cocaine Rodeo" album was recorded that same year, but shelved until the Southern Lord label released it and its unique brand of criminal insanity to widespread acclaim and horror in the summer of 2000. The follow-up, "A Drug Problem That Never Existed," was released jointly in the Summer of 2003 by Ipecac/Rekords Rekords to further critical acclaim. A worldwide tour followed that was chronicled on video for the DVD release "Use Once and Destroy Me". In 2004, Mondo Generator recorded and released "III The EP." Oliveri began a solo acoustic career shortly after, which would see two full releases, "Demolition Day", and 2010's "Death Acoustic." In 2006, Mondo Generator released "Dead Planet: SonicSlowMotionTrails" on English label Mother Tongue. It would be released worldwide the following year on Suburban Noize Records. In late 2010, Mondo Generator would be put on a back-burner as Oliveri rejoined Kyuss, re-branded as Kyuss Lives!, which also featured John Garcia, Brant Bjork, and new guitarist Bruno Fevery. In early 2012, Oliveri exited Kyuss Lives and is now concentrating full-time on Mondo Generator. The new album, "Hell Comes To Your Heart," was released on July 3 via Mondo Media/Cobraside.
LORD HOWLER was conceived by singer/guitarist Charlie McRee as an arena where guitar harmony, vocal melody and heavy rock punch meet with a love of horror and sense of humor. Themes of lycanthrope, immortality, psychopathy, voodoo, fast cars, alien invasion and copious libation ride a wave of twin guitar assault. Sabbath grind gives way to vintage Metallica thrash. A quiet interlude of lost love becomes a paean to necrophilia. Cold beer sits in the fridge next to body parts..in other words, outrageous ferocious rock n roll fun! In the interest of finding like minded musicians Charlie wrote and performed a 10 song album and christened the project "LORD HOWLER". Armed with this recruiting tool he set about finding the band to bring the sound to the stage. First was guitarist Micael Shultzman, ready to pound out riffs, rip leads or double either with aplomb. Next was drum powerhouse Jake Najor, as comfortable grooving in funk and soul bands as bludgeoning the kit behind punk and rock outfits. Finally Pete Pisaturo rounded out the four piece on bass, a bastard son of Iron Maidens Steve Harris and Motown legend James Jamerson. With the outfit assembled LH stormed the local club scene to acclaim in 2010 and received a San Diego Music Award for Best Hard Rock. They have just completed and self released a follow up LP, "...Hath Four Heads!" and are nominated again for 2012's Best Hard Rock SDMA. They are looking to the horizon beyond San Diego to spread the sound of maximum rock to the west coast and beyond.
REVENGE DEATH BALL: With a little bit of edge on their Fu Manchu-tinged doomy sludge, REVENGE DEATH BALL plays like desert Metal whittled by harshness of the otherwise unforgiving climate: slow, callous, and utterly maniacal. The band's sound reminds me of the great licks from the now defunct Gargantula, especially REVENGE DEATH BALL's vocals, which are perfectly aligned with the band's demolition-sounding riffs and enjoyable jagged time changes. Add to this a whole lot of Kyuss, a smattering of Crass and Black Flag, and just a touch of Slayer, and you have a band with an easy appeal: something to put on when driving in the fast lane toward an uncertain destiny.
FANTASY ARCADE: Do you like Dwarves? Do you like Unicorns? Do you like Cake? Well my friends, if you answered yes to any or all of those questions, then you will like Fantasy Arcade.
