Howard Alden & The Hot Club of Philadelphia
He may be the best of his generation, writes Owen Cordle in JAZZ TIMES. The NEWARK STAR LEDGER proclaims that he is the most impressive and creative member of a new generation of jazz guitarists. And Chip Deffaa of the NEW YORK POST said that he is ...one of the very finest young guitarists working today. Alden has played on the soundtracks of films like Woody Allen's 1999 release'Sweet and Lowdown,' where Sean Penn plays a Django Reinhardt wannabe. He has appeared on the Prairie Home Companion, Riverwalk Jazz, etc. In February of 2009, Howard was recognized as a Modern Maestro, one of DOWNBEAT MAGAZINES 75 Great Guitarists of all time! An original virtuoso His guest spots on the Hot Club of Philadelphia's 2015 release 'Gypsy Routes,' helped to have the CD come in at # 11 on WRTI Jazz radio's Top 100 Releases of 2015. The show will feature Barry Wahrhaftig, guitarist-vocalist with the HCPhilly, Bassist Jim Stager, and Phyllis Chapell guest vocalist. They will be performing Django's music, some French musette, Latin and Jazz standards and 20's & 30's hot jazz. The concert is part of the Chestnut Hill Community Concert Series, sponsored by Weavers Way Co-op.
