SOLO SUNDAYS - 7/23/17
. W H A T I S S O L O P E R F O R M A N C E? Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and soulful, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal visions.
MARGA GOMEZ ----------------------------------------- "Pound"
In a cinematic lesbian limbo where plumbers, showgirls, murderers and school teachers hook up after the Netflix rental is returned, Corky has a winning hand but no luck with the ladies. All she wants is sex in her truck with a sympathetic femme with a backstory. But every woman Corky meets has been created by a dude. Why is a fictional dyke to do? Marga plays Corky and the diciest denizens ever conjured by Hollywoods dream factory.
LINDSEY AYOTTE ----------------------------------------- "White Girl Wasted"
There are a lot of qualities Lindsey truly loves about herself but give her a glass of chilled rose and her cringeworthy "white girl wasted" side comes out to play. Lindsey likes to think she is above saying and doing embarrassing things. Turns out this attitude is compromised when intoxicated while making online purchases.
PHIL SURKIS ----------------------------------------- "Happy People Do Not Play The Bass"
Phil fidgeted with his handwritten notecard for the whole 7-mile bus ride, resisting the urge to let the humid New England airstream carry it out the window. Now face toface with the record shop bulletin board, he was forced to make a decision. Once a fantasy, starting a band could now actually become a real thing. A really scary, real life thing. Not feeling very musician-like, he did just spend an hour on a bus. Ambivalence was no longer an option.
