Fascinator Making Workshop
In this workshop the participants learn how hats are made and formed. We will focus on using Sinamay - which is the most used material that summer hats are made from.
Participants will make their own fascinator base, shaping the sinamay around a head base, then wiring and trimming their base. Then we will make roses out of sinamay, learn to manipulate feathers, and attaching birdcage veils.
Sahar will provide all materials such as sinamay, feathers, net veiling, gems and all sorts of adornments. If you have something special eg a brooch or piece of fabric, please bring it along and see if we can incorporate into your hat! If you have an outfit in mind to match your hat with, feel free to bring it along.
This is a great first crash course in hat making for people who are curious in the art of millinery and those who would like to learn a new craft, as well as those who just want a new hat!
Limited Spaces. No experience necessary.
IT IS ADVISABLE TO BRING AN APRON.
Teas and coffees will be provided. Approx end time 3pm.
The workshop is held in Sahar's studio in Central London.
Sahar Freemantle is a milliner based in London. The purpose of her brand Sahar Millinery is to spread beauty and inspire creativity.
She does this by specialising in handmade hats for women; Hats which have great shapes, compliment the wearer, and are comfortable to wear. Sahar Millinery hats are traditionally made, with a contemporary finish, and when its a bespoke piece - often tell stories of the wearer through the details.
Sahar also offers workshops with the purpose of teaching the craft of millinery, and hat-focused life drawing classes, bringing out creativity from our participants.
Sahar has a degree in Performance Costume from Edinburgh College of Art. Sahar Millinery also has a sub-brand called UglyLovely. UglyLovely is a playful exploration at what beauty is, taking inspiration from nature and surrealism.
Sahars work has been exhibited at the V&A, featured in The Guardian, The Independents list of best Ascot Hats, on Screen in Downton Abbey, and on celebrities such as Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith, Charli Howard, Georgina Campbell and Immodesty Blaize.
