CUFFS & COLLARS: A Leatherworking Workshop Led by David Nasca
Materials Fee: $20 Participants 12 (max)
The Leather Archives & Museum Guest Artist Gallery presents this public program as part of MATERIALKINK, on view June 30, 2017 through January 14, 2018.
In this 2.5 hour introductory workshop participants will become familiar with the basic vocabulary and fundamental skills of leatherworking in a fun, supportive, and intimate setting. Each participant will have the opportunity to use leatherworking tools, dyes, and hardware in order to craft their own individualized leather cuff or collar. No previous experience in leatherworking necessary.
About the Artist:
David Nascas sculptural works are often queer distortions or elaborations on recognizable, utilitarian objects. Other sculptures are hypothetical, imagined models of non-binary biology. These strategies allow him to engage with dialogs around personal fantasy and the project of imagining a queer future. He has exhibited work nationally and internationally at the Centro Cultural del México Contemporáneo, ArtSpace Mexico, Mana Contemporary (Chicago), and Sullivan Galleries (Chicago), among others. He received his BA with Honors in Studio Art from the University of Chicago. He lives and works in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
This public program is made possible by the generous support of Leather64Ten, specializing in custom, state-of-the-art garments and high-tech bondage devices.
