JAZZ IT UP @ TONY'S CAFE with the TAKE 2 QUARTET in Concert
The popular monthly Jazz it Up @ Tony's Cafe Concert & Dining Experience continues with an evening of jazz and selections from "The Great American Song Book" by the popular Take 2 Quartet from Princeton, NJ in concert. There is a piece of music history that continues to entertain and engage enthusiasts to this day...Music that embraces the soul while providing a much needed break from the stresses of daily life. These collections of standards can be found in "The Great American Songbook." It takes a special type of experience to ensure that when this music is performed, the essence of the mood and feel intended are captured. Tenor sax player Steve Riback has brought both his love of music and wealth of experience to every aspect of his life and it is complimented by his performance quality. As a music teacher, he enjoyed sharing his passion with students as well as his 43 years of experience, having performed various genres of music, including Rock and Jazz. His tone and improvisational technique illustrate this experience as well as the influence by his mentors. Upon moving to central New Jersey, Steve began to explore new opportunities and met Tom M., a drummer/stylist who has played in New Jersey clubs for several years as well as backed-up such artists as Julius La Rosa and Dion. His group, "The Bel-Airs," played many of New Jersey's more popular venues. As a percussionist, Tom demonstrates a smooth and elegant style with a tasteful brush technique. His "Eye Opening" solos are certain to capture the attention of all who attend Take 2 performances. Together Tom and Steve started playing in Jazz and Big Band groups but they were searching for something a bit different. While contemplating their options over a plate of fried Calamari in Princeton New Jersey, they became enchanted by the voice and keyboard skills of Carole Lynne (keyboard and vocals) as well as the bass playing abilities of Nick Palmer. At this moment, they knew fate had brought them to this restaurant for a reason. When Carole and Nick agreed to join Take 2 with Steve and Tom, the quartet was born. Nick Palmer had a quality Tom was aspiring to find, that would complement his unique style. With influences ranging from Clark Terry, Phil Woods, and Bill Watrous, Nick's unique bass lines and solos have been enjoyed by fans for years when he performed with large swing bands as well as smaller jazz groups. For Steve, he heard in Carole that smooth, smoky voice he had hoped to find and was further thrilled to hear her impeccable piano style, making her an even more ideal candidate for the group. Carole's influences are prominent with every note she sings from, "The Great American Songbook." Including Peggy Lee, Anita O'Day, to Carmen McRae, Diana Krall, Carole's performance style is a hybrid of all those that came before her. The "Take 2" Quartet performs throughout the New York Metropolitan area and looks forward to being that ideal compliment to your perfect evening. The experience includes a choice of Italian style dinner entree, dessert and a beverage. BYO is welcome.
