Gin in June
Join us for a lively evening with food and drink expert Tonya Hopkins to experience the aromatic flavor-filled spirit people are polarized to love or hate! Gin continues to ride the tide of changing times, from its earliest days of the exotic to the everyday, from the curative to corrupt.
Youll taste a range of old and newer styles of gin from light to fuller, dryer to sweet, pure to pungent -- even something aged - as well as a delicious gin from our neighbors at Brooklyn Gin. Sip and sample both the seedy and sunny sides of gin from its malty Dutch medicinal origins to its link to moral depravity. Learn of its many reemergences, including its lead role in the makings of the magnificent martini.
A liquid pillar throughout Prohibition and a protagonist of speakeasy lore, gin remains a constant in American cocktail culture inspiring countless creative concoctions for centuries, up to and including its umpteenth revival and resurgence in popularity today.
Celebrate the seasonal solstice as we switch from Spring to Summer, breathe in the essence botanicals and herbs grown in our very own OSH gardens, some of which are used to make the mosaic of flavors found in modern and historic gin recipes. Savory summer bites incorporating items from the OSH gardens and the Down To Earth Farmers Market will also be served!
American food & drinks scholar/writer/raconteur Tonya Hopkins is the great granddaughter of a Prohibition Era speakeasy entrepreneur and a mixology maven who's worked in many aspects of the wine and spirits industry for nearly two decades.
