Queertopia 2017: Revolting Bodies * Beyond Flesh
*Patrick's Cabaret is proud to serve as a fiscal sponsor and box office coordinator for the 2017 production of Queertopia. An independent collective of organizers are creating the event, and we are excited to provide a web presence and box office for this like-minded but wholly separate production company. The following is text provided by Queertopia organizers.*
Queertopia is proud to present, in our 12th year, a ferocious and unapologetic art show during Pride weekend.
Curated by Rica de la Concha, MikeQueenz, Nastalie Bogira, Chandler Daily, Johnnay Leenay and Erin Sharkey, Queertopia 2017: Revolting Bodies * Beyond Flesh brings together performing and visual artists to revolt against the ways our queer and trans bodies are sites of collective and individual violent oppression. With desire we ask: how do we read and mark our bodies? Who are we connected to? What do we inherit and how do we engage our legacies? In oppressive states, imagination is a threat to tyranny. We must queer thinking to swell beyond law, beyond time. We ready, we cummin!
With your hosts Lisa Marie Brimmer and MikeQueenz, Revolting Bodies * Beyond Flesh features the amazing talents of A.P. Looze, Hector Chavarria, Sami Pfeffer, Namir Fearce, Free Black Dirt with Duah Saleh and Katie Robinson, Holo Lue Choy, and Dana Ainra Njonjo. Furthering our Queertopia experience, the show will also feature visual art by Akiko Ostlund, Jaffa Aharonov, Solomon Fletcher, Blaire Moore and Chandler Daily.
This year the show will take place at Intermedia Arts with opening night starting on Wednesday June 21st, 2017 and will run through Saturday June 24th, 2017. Estimated run time is 2 hours. Tickets opening night will be available at a sliding scale rate $5.00 to $25.00. Thursday through Saturday, tickets price will be $15.00 in advance and for students/seniors; and $18.00 at the door.
About Queertopia:
Queertopia is an annual performance and visual art show that takes place during Pride at Intermedia Arts. We are a collectively run queer and gender-ungovernable art project that values decentering whiteness and toxic masculinity (cuz who has time for all that? not us).
