"As each of us feels more comfortable, we share intimate moments from our lives. It's different from the stand-up I tried, because, ultimately, success isn't dependent on making people laugh." - Now Magazine
We tell stories all the time, every day, but it's the deeper stories the ones that changed your life that should be told more often.

This course focuses on high stakes content: a personal story with big emotional investment, relationship, and change and the mechanics of writing and performing that story with lyricism and investment.
We will discuss what makes a strong high stakes story, story structure, editing, the importance of detail, and connecting with the audience. High energy games form a large part of the learning process.
Every class will include up thirty minutes a week of homework. This challenging course culminates in a 7 minute high stakes story, told during the last class to your friends and family.
Is this course right for you?
Do you want to know more about the art of storytelling? This course is about finding the artistry of storytelling within yourself. Becoming a compelling storyteller at work, with friends, and on stage.
However, if you are looking for narrative therapy - which can be a chance for personal discovery - I highly recommend finding a narrative therapist who is qualified to work with your story.
Do you want to find more confidence within yourself? A very large part of this course involves physical, high energy group exercises designed to help you find your own confidence through stepping into brand new situations and succeeding in a warm and supportive environment.
Do you have a story you're excited to tell? This course focuses on high stakes stories. "I got drunk and got lost" is fun to tell friends at a party, but a high stakes story is the one you tell someone special to you, in an intimate coffeeshop.
High stakes stories usually fit one or more of these points: * high stakes categories: birth, death, war, fear, crime, struggle, bravery, love, kindness, religion, addiction * something very important is gained * something very important is lost * outside events create a crucial struggle
Low stakes stories that do NOT work: * while travelling I discovered my life at home is nice, or I should change the path I'm on * stories of personal transformation that take place largely inside the teller's head * "I thought ______, but then realized that actually ____ was true" * stories that are focused almost entirely on the teller with little mention of other humans
Are you unsure which story from your life to tell? We will work together to find a strong and interesting story from your experiences that you'll work on for the seven week course.
However, you must be emotionally ready to tell this story. Again, if you're looking for narrative therapy, a qualified therapist is your best bet.
Do you have the time at home for thirty minutes a week of homework? This demanding and challenging course involves thirty minutes a week of homework.
