America & China: Challenges and Opportunities Ahead
Please join the University of Washington community for a conversation about U.S.China relations with the Honorable Jon Huntsman Jr., the former U.S. ambassador to China and former governor of Utah. He will discuss America & China: Challenges and Opportunities Ahead with Richard J. Ellings, the president of The National Bureau of Asian Research and a former professor at the Jackson School.

Tuesday, December 4, 2012
5:30 p.m., Discussion followed by Q&A
Kane Hall 130, UW Seattle Campus

Ambassador Huntsman has had a distinguished career in foreign policy. He became the youngest head of an American diplomatic mission in a century when he was named U.S. Ambassador to Singapore in 1992. He later served as U.S. Trade Ambassador, helping negotiate dozens of free trade agreements with Asian and African nations. In 2009, he was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as ambassador to China.

With such extensive experience, he is a unique position to discuss some of the toughest questions affecting U.S.China relations:
What obstacles are ahead for the U.S., and how is China reacting to the U.S. foreign policy pivot toward the Asia-Pacific?
How can the U.S. and China form a stronger trading partnership while protecting intellectual property rights?
How is the increasingly complex U.S.China relationship affecting the Asia-Pacific region more broadly?
We welcome you to join the conversation.
