When tough fifteen year old Jenny Stone is moved to a new city by her father in the wake of a tragic event neither of them want to discuss, she finds herself drawn into an underworld of Grimm-like figures that bear a strange resemblance to the people in her waking life. Based in part on Bruno Bettelheim's psychological analysis of children's relationship to fairy tales, Uses of Enchantment is a realistic family drama mashed up with a fantastical and highly theatrical fairytale, about growing, coming to terms with loss, and the ways in which storytelling can sometimes save our lives.
