Lazy Lightning presents the music of The Grateful Dead!
For nearly 20 years, no band in Maine has done more than Lazy Lightning to preserve the joyful legacy of the Grateful Dead's music. Founded in the early 1990s by Camden native Rodney Sturdee, whose guitar playing eerily channels the fretwork of the late Jerry Garcia, Lazy Lightning's take on the Dead's mix of tight song-craft and loose improvisation has had fans grooving since today's college students who in turn have become Deadheads from listening to their parents' bootleg concert tapes were toddlers. Songs from each era of the Grateful Dead's 30 years as America's greatest live touring act find their way into Lazy Lightning's shows, and the band takes pride in its spot-on arrangements of familiar Dead classics. Bust out your tie-dyes, Deadheads, it's time for some fun!
For this show, Lazy Lightning has chosen to recreate one of the Dead's longest shows -- it's a part of Lewiston history that no one who lives here has forgotten, even nearly 33 years later: their amazing September 6, 1980 performance right here at the Lewiston Fairgrounds. Here's the set list:
FIRST SET: Alabama Getaway, Greatest Story Ever Told, Sugaree, Me and My Uncle > Mexicali Blues, Tennessee Jed, Feel Like a Stranger, Friend of the Devil, Far From Me, Little Red Rooster, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Promised Land
SECOND SET: Shakedown Street, Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance, Althea, Playin' in the Band > Uncle John's Band > drums/space > Not Fade Away > The Wheel > Uncle John's Band > Playin' in the Band, Sugar Magnolia
