Songwriters Chris Kokesh and LJ Booth are joining forces for a sunny summer afternoon backyard concert in southwest Portland. This will be their only Portland appearance on this tour.
Both are stellar songwriters and veterans on the folk music scene. The two met in 2010, sharing songs around a campfire at Texass Kerrville Folk Festival. Sensing that the sum of their collective talents had a powerful potential, they began touring together in 2011. They take great joy in fusing their distinctive poetic voices, the vibrant palette of guitars and fiddle, and the sparkle of their harmony singing, into a memorable evening of story and song.
LJ has earned the respect of peers and critics alike with performances that can be both revelatory and the joyfully raucous. Mike Meyer, KRVM-FM, Eugene, said, Seasoned performers are priceless in the era of short-term 'discoveries', and LJ Booth is among the most adept and accomplished songwriters and storytellers in the country. His comfortable presence, stellar songs, and stage banter makes for a concert experience that resonates. Chris toured nationally for 15 years with the all-women folk and bluegrass quartet Misty River. In 2010 Kokesh decided to pursue her own songwriting career and quickly earned a reputation as an engaging solo performer, as well as a versatile fiddle player and harmony singer. Onstage Kokesh reveals the inner workings of her heart with grace and a wry sense of humor.
Recently, performance has taken more of a back seat, as theyve had a change of focusa masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (for LJ), a move to Wisconsin (for Chris), and in 2014a new family member (Sam). Life has been full!
The big changes have left less time for performance, so the couple is especially excited for their first tour to the NW since 2015. Tickets are $15 advance from brownpapertickets.com or $20 at the door.
