AUP Presents: Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol by Tom Mula
Acting Up Productions (AUP) will present the next offering in their Season of Discovery: Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol by Tom Mula December 20-30, 2012 at the Hidden Door Theatre in Greenfield.
Most everyone knows the story of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge. AUP presents Mula's twist on a classic tale told from the point of view of Scrooge's deceased partner Jacob Marley who posthumously attempts to save Scrooge and redeem himself in the process. With the aid of a seemingly self-serving hell-sprite, Marley takes us on a hilarious and moving journey from death, to hell and beyond.
Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol was nominated for four Joseph Jefferson Awards, and received an After Dark Award and the Goodman School of Drama's Cunningham Prize for Playwriting. The play has been performed to rave reviews in theatres across the country and Tom Mula's one-man recording is an annual holiday broadcast on NPR.
AUP's production will star Scott Russell, playing a total of 19 roles. Russell, a graduate of The Conservatory at Act One, Chicago has recently been seen in AUP's Our Town and Night of the Living Dead - Part 2. Russell is thrilled about this show for many reasons, and said "This is truly one of those shows that stretches you and asks you to bring all of the training, education, and life experiences you have with you. The story is so human and yet simultaneously transcendent of humanity - universal. In a way, it's better than the original story we're all familiar with, capturing an ending that is so much more selfless and enduring; to get to share that with people and put it out into the world is both a pleasure and a responsibility."
AUP Artistic Director, R. Brian Noffke is looking forward to introducing audiences to this story, along with inviting new audiences to the Hidden Door Theatre located at 12 1/2 West Main Street in Greenfield. The upstairs space is newly renovated into an intimate and effective theatre space that is perfect for this soon-to-be holiday favorite. Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol is directed and designed by Noffke, stage managed by John Hudson with sound by Noffke and Roy Chamberlin.
Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol will be presented December 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, and 30th. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $12 reserved or $15 at the door. Seating is very limited so reservations are recommended. Please note, this is an upstairs space and there is no handicap accessibility. You may reserve tickets by calling the Box Office at 317-207-0171 or online at www.ActingUp-Productions.com.
