Lines of Flight: Ben Haugland and Greg Johnson
Pianist Ben Haugland and saxophonist Greg Johnson will be performing a CD release tour for their new album "Lines of Flight". The instrumentation is simple, piano and saxophone. However, the sonic possibilities are far-reaching. Imagine a party of Miles Davis, Tchaikovsky, Ravi Shankar and Michael Jackson sitting in a Jazz club together telling them to "play." The music is composed enough, improvised enough, stylistically ambiguous enough to resemble many different styles of music while being true to its Jazz roots.
Ben Haugland and Greg Johnson are represent the working class Jazz musician. Both directors of substantial Jazz programs in Texas and California respectively, the duo will be celebrating the release of their new project, "Lines of Flight" this June and July.
Collectively, Haugland and Johnson have performed, recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in Jazz and Pop music. Ben's two previous releases feature the likes of Jay Anderson, Dick Oatts, Scott Wendholt and he has shared the stage with titans of Jazz such as Chris Potter, Bob Mintzer and Curtis Fuller. Greg has spent the last three years touring and recording with the likes of Robin Thicke, Barry Manilow and Saint Motel.
Between the two, Ben and Greg share multiple appearances on the GRAMMY ballot through the years; Ben for his work with the North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band and Greg for his solos on Aarón Serfaty's "In The Game." Having released a combined five albums, "Lines of Flight" will be their first record as a duo. For more info, visit:
