Painting With Light Workshop with Jesse Vasquez & A-K Arts, Aaron & Kitty!
For this workshop we will be using digital cameras, which enable a much greater degree of refinement in the initial capture. Students will learn to see objects and figures as forms of energy and then to translate this vision into compelling photographic compositions.
This workshop will consist of a short introduction to the tools and technical issues involved in planning a shoot and then move quickly into shooting with live models, as experience is the best teacher.
Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to bring:
- A camera which can be set to bulb
- A tripod
- A dramatic, interesting piece of clothing.
- A light source or two (a cell phone works nicely)
Attendees may also show up with nothing but a desire to learn, and be assured of gaining something which will enhance their own practice and experience of photography.
Meet the instructor Jesse Vasquez!
Photographic artist Jesse Vasquez brings his unique vision to this popular technique of long-exposure photography. Concerned primarily with the human form, he has been using this technique to create stunning portraits and fine art for over 20 years. His initial body of work Creatures of Light reached into the roots of mythology, creating imagery that is ephemeral, weighty and timeless and was produced using only simple flashlights as the light source and a 35mm film camera.

Meet your dancer/model muse dynamic duo A-K Arts!
A-K Arts (Aaron & Kitty) have so many years of professional modeling experience throughout the country with hundreds of photographers & artists of all kinds.
Working with all skill levels collaborating on conceptual and emotive imagery from California to Maine, and back we love to create unique thought provoking pictures that have been published and featured in many gallery showings across the nation.
-Aaron has a background as a professional contemporary ballet dancer adding that extra little bit to your shoot. Jumps are his speciality along with headstands. He is strong & very flexible!
-Kitty professionally figure models for classical ateliers & renowned painters. She is skilled at staying very still, for very long periods of time, as well as moving fluidly through gestural poses.. She loves to dance & do yoga too.

A-K Arts for almost 4years has been running a day-light photo & dance studio theater space. It's 2600sqft with a wall of west facing windows, providing spectacular natural afternoon delights. Silhouetted shoot opportunities and sunsets skies in the background!
We have pro lighting equipment, strobes, modifiers, pocket wizards, slaves, c stands, tons of fabric backdrops & the usual black, white, grey and green screen paper drops, 12 par 56 theater lights, a selection of unique chairs, props & wardrobe. There's even a vintage claw foot tub that's operational!
Here at Little Boxes we host our fiscally sponsored salons & unique artist residencies called Project: Open Box. We open our doors to everyone & feature low income & underground productions.
