Apple Butter Produced by Jewel Weed Theatre Co. For Kids! Playwright: James Reaney Director and Producer: Helen Monroe Puppets and mask design: Jennifer Brook Featuring: Nicola Atkinson, Adrian Beattie, Kayla Farris, Connor Marois, Reanne Spitzer With original music by Peter Jarvis Apple Butter is an orphan who lives on a farm in Ontario and he's very proud of being different. He loves cracking jokes, eating supper, playing with his friend Moo Cow and getting into trouble. Unfortunately, his trouble making seems to have landed him in hot water with the grown-ups on the farm. Can his magical friends come together and help Apple Butter charm the grown-ups and avoid a whipping? This beloved tale was written in 1965 for the Ontario Western Fair by James Reaney (Governor General's Award winning author, poet and playwright). Originally written to be done with marionettes, this play comes to life for the first time in nearly 30 years, with actors, puppets, masks and a touch of magic. Original songs by folk songwriter Peter Jarvis and puppet design by Montreal Artist Jennifer Brook make this beautiful, historical play a true celebration of what it means to be Canadian.
