A Garland of Carols
An evening of festive joy commemorates the holiday season when Resonanz, the chamber ensemble of the Rochester Oratorio Society, and the Rochester Lyric Opera present "A Garland of Carols" on Saturday, December 15, 7:30 p.m., at Linehan Chapel on the campus of Nazareth College. The program is suitable for all ages.
Carols of many cultures fill the program, with familiar classics as well as a suite of international carols arranged by African-American composer William Grant Still. Highlights include the spirited Gloria movement from Dave Brubeck's cantata "La Fiesta de la Posada", a brilliant carol by Minnesota composer Abbie Betinis and a Hanukkah carol written by Rochester resident and ROS member Dennis Rosenbaum. Susan Cotroneo, soprano, and Matthew Swensen, tenor, offer several familiar, lighter classical solo works for the season. Eric Townell, Artistic Director of the Rochester Oratorio Society conducts. Julia Fiqueras, Music Director and mid-day host of WXXI radio, will warm the audience with inspiring holiday readings. John Gabriele, Instructor in Piano and Director of the School of the Arts Concert Choir, will accompany the perfromance.
