Dana Sipos at the Casa Phoenix
Dana Sipos will break your heart and then proceed to pick up the pieces.

A lyrical, satirical poet with a voice to bring you to your knees, Sipos is an emerging musical force. Likened to folk minstrels of yesteryear, this multi-instrumentalist is part poetry, part politics, part hip, part pop, with hints of blues, a dash of soul and a whole lot of charm. She sews compelling sounds, seamlessly weaving tales of the light, dark, and the absurd, of love lost and renewed, from the old country to the world-to-come, of the expansive beauty of her northern home to the tiny spaces in between and throughout.
Sipos recently self-released her second studio album, recorded with Juno-winning producer Bob Hamilton, tucked away in the Yukon wilds at Old Crow Studio in Whitehorse. The new album, Lay of the Land, maps out the landscapes of heart and country, with songs that travel along your spine to tingle your toes and tickle your heartstrings.

Sipos is building on the momentum of her first album, the Moonshine Brigade, also recorded and produced by Hamilton, which took her across the vast tundra from the Dawson City Music Festival, down "south" to the Peterborough Folk Festival, and even further south to the Oregon Country Fair. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Sipos was invited to perform at the prestigious Northern House in Vancouver. In 2009, she was chosen to represent the Northwest Territories in the first CBC Great Canadian Songquest, and commissioned to write a song about the pingo's in Tuktoyaktuk. Both albums, and Time Before Bones are available on iTunes.

Sipos received funding from the NWT Arts Council to record both albums; she received additional funding from the Yukon Film & Sound Commission for her second album.
