Snap on 2&4 w/ Will Barrow
Will Barrow will make his Snap on 2&4 debut Friday, June 16 at 8pm.
Will Barrow is a Grammy-winning pianist, accordionist, singer/songwriter and educator whose career and work encompasses a variety of styles. Will has toured with an eclectic array of artists including Gregory Porter, Bebe Winans, Steve Wariner, Crystal Gayle, Suzy Bogguss, Alison Brown, The Gatlin Brothers, Rosie Flores, Wanda Jackson and many others. He played gigs with the Laws family (Ronnie,Hubert and Eloise) while serving as Ms. Laws' pianist. Will's recent recording credits include The Indigo Girls, Colin Hay, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Ms. Bogguss, Ms.Brown, Ms. Gayle, Gail Davies (with Benny Golson), and The Gatlins. He provided an instrumental cut for a Stephen Foster tribute record that won a Grammy in '04.
The early part of Will's career was spent in New York City, where he earned a Master's from Manhattan School of Music, played jazz gigs, and spent some time as a Broadway musician and conductor. It was also there that Will fell in love with Brazilian music, while watching artists like Ceasar Camargo Mariano, Romero Lubambo, and Paulo Braga. Will has been in Nashville since 2002.
Will's current project "Coracao Brasiliero" combines all his musical experiences and influences with some of the colors of this rich musical palette. Included in the mix are original songs and compositions, as well as covers of some of the masters of the genre; Gil, Paschoal, Jobim and Lins. Musical styles included are samba, baiao, forro, bossa, funk, and choro. A superb band at this NJW show will feature Jeff Taylor on accordion and keyboards, J'nae Fincannon on backing and lead vocals, Giovanni Rodriguez on percussion, Jordan Perlson on drums, and Roger Spencer on bass, along with some surprise guests.
There will be two sets beginning at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop. Admission is $25 / $15 high school and college students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday Junw 5 at 10AM and will be available online on this page, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to purchases.
Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones. Audio and video recording is prohibited. Ticket sales are final.
