Margaret McDuffie - Jazz in June
Saturday June 10th at 7:30pm, Tompkins Corners Cultural Center is excited to present Margaret McDuffie, Jazz in June.

Margaret McDuffie, a wonderful local jazz vocalist will be joined at this event by Steve Raleigh on guitar, T. Xiques on drums, and Jim Curtin on bass., which she has referred to as three fine gentlemen with an excellent sense of direction through that special place in time and space that is blues, country swing, folk, funk and jazz.

Margaret is a song-writing blues and jazz singer and has engaged in music in the Hudson Valley for about twenty years performing at local venues and to music audiences like those at The Falcon in Marlboro, the Towne Crier Cafe, Dogwood Bar, and Garrison Depot Theater Music Tracks Series.

Though a song-writer at heart, she became known in the region as a jazz singer after working with Ed Diehl for a few years, as well as Mike Demicco, Lou Pappas, Art Labriola, and several other regional players. After collaborating many times with guitarist Steve Raleigh she began to write music again, and since then has been recording and writing a blend of jazz, blues, sixties R&B and folk.

Margaret will be presenting mostly songs from the pair of CDs she is recording at the moment, one, as she puts it, a bluesier rendering of the troubles of our time, and the other a folky-jazz that speaks to the heart about inspiration and compassion. She will also most likely play a few jazz ballads.

Margaret McDuffies first CD, "Under A Spell," is original blues with a feel for jazz, and "while I'm about to finish a second record, more jazzy and personal with some standards as well as originals, coming right down the pike after that is a darker rustic blues collection," says Margaret. "There's a lot of writing going on all the time. There are also a lot of instruments I love to play, but I'm mostly at the mic - thanks to the amazing players behind me! These days that's Steve Raleigh, Jim Curtin & T. Xiques."
