The New Old Time Chautauqua - Hands Across the Border Project
The New Old Time Chautauqua is presenting an evening benefit variety show on June 9, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Palindrome - 1893 Jacob Miller Road, Port Townsend, WA 98368. The show will benefit NOTC's new and groudbreaking, Hands Across the Border Project.
The New Old Time Chautauqua (NOTC) is embarking on a new project with the Blackfeet Confederacy June 13-25. This show will benefit the project's need for gas, food, and materials to get us there and back.
The show will feature elements of the Flying Karamazov Brothers, Magician, Joey Pipia, Port Townsend's Unexpected Brass Band, Artis the Spoonman, speakers, and many more.
The Blackfoot Confederacy is divided by the US/Canadian Border even though they are a single people sharing the same culture, language, and family ties. The NOTC is working on a new way to develop relationships and community through a full-on collaboration with the Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana and the Piikani Nation in Brocket, Alberta June 13-25.
On both sides of the border the Blackfeet are facing resouce issues from the pertroleum industry, with battle line being drawn over renewed oil leases on the the Badger-Two Medicine sacred land in Montana and the tar sands in Alberta.
Over a span of 10 days the NOTC and the Blackfeet Community will feature workshops, forums, a fry bread contest, service projects, and a presentation. Workshops included will be on deep clowning, storytelling through quilts, juggling, hul-hooping, tap dancing, and more. Forums will include discussions on the Doctrine of Discovery, Treaties, Buffalo, Domestic Violence and passed down Trauma, Traditional Medicine, etc...
Tickets in advance are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 & under. At the door they will be $20 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and under.
This will be a unique variety show for the whole family continuing Port Townsend's amazing support of justice and the environment on Native lands. Please come a support NOTC's Hands Across the Border Project.
