Bill Nye: Science Guy @ the LA Film Festival
Nerdist invites you to join the Los Angeles Film Festival premiere of Bill Nye: Science Guy. The documentary film chronicles the life of Planetary Society CEO and famous television personality as he struggles to restore science to its rightful place in a world resistant to evidence and reason. The Society's innovative LightSail® spacecraft provides one of the film's inspiring storylines--journaling the successful test flight of LightSail 1 in May 2015, and setting the stage for next year's launch of the LightSail 2 mission.
The film screens at the LA Film Festival on the evening of June 15th, followed by an exclusive Nerdist-sponsored Light Sail fundraising reception with guest of honor Bill Nye, along with filmmakers David Alvarado, Jason Sussberg, and Kate McLean. Join Kyle Hill, Nerdist host of Because Science, as well as LightSail Program Manager, Dr. Bruce Betts, and Planetary Radio Host, Mat Kaplan. Business casual attire preferred.
Tickets for the fundraising event and screening are extremely limited. All proceeds from this intimate evening will benefit The Society's LightSail project; a portion of each ticket ($426.00) is tax-deductible as a gift to The Planetary Society. LightSail, a small three-unit cubesat, will demonstrate the ability to propel a spacecraft using only beams of light from the sun. Funded by over 33,000 members of The Planetary Society and backers from the Kickstarter community, the LightSail project has become known as the peoples spacecraft, helping to usher-in a new era with the democratization of space. LightSail will be carried to orbit in the coming year on the first operational launch of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.
