Event
West Street Gang
In August 1977, Theater Rhinoceros, proudly America's longest-running queer theatre company, performed its first play, Doric Wilson's WEST STREET GANG, at the Black and Blue Bar in San Francisco. Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the event, The Rhino will present a staged reading of the play under the direction of Christopher Chase one block away at the current location of The Stud in SoMa. The comedy features a group of queers in a bar figuring out how to defend themselves from a number of fag bashers (ranging from street gangs, opportunistic political figure Anita Bryant, and even the lease-owners of the bar). All of the bashers eventually turn up in the bar--And are dealt with by the newly formed "West Street Gang."
