In this class, attorney Benjamin Kerr leads you through the essentials of business and finance for artists. Copyright, earning scenarios, business entity formation, contract law, and all those complicated legal terms you didn't learn in school you'll learn here. By the end of the class, you'll know how to create a business plan; understand contracts, taxes, and insurance; and be able to organize and manage your finances, so you can support yourself and your artistic practice.

Instructor Bio: Ben Kerr has extensive experience advising clients in a wide variety of practice areas including contract drafting, negotiation and review; entertainment law; business formation; intellectual property; real estate; landlord/tenant law; corporations and partnerships; and wills and estates. He has represented individuals; small businesses; and corporate entities in state and federal courts, and arbitrations on a wide variety of commercial and civil litigation matters. He has litigated claims in state and federal courts and in multiple arbitration venues. Mr. Kerr also has represented clients in a variety of industries in breach of contract, construction, insurance coverage and other commercial disputes.
CANCELLATIONS & CREDIT POLICY
Artist Trust reserves the right to cancel any program. If cancelled, a full refund will be applied. If a participant needs to cancel for a paid program, the following policy will apply:
A full refund can be issued through Brown Paper Tickets if notified 5 days prior to the program date.
A transfer credit of equal or lesser value can be issued if notified within 48 hours of program. Credit will be valid for up to 12 months.
Artist Trust cannot provide refunds for missed classes. Please contact the coordinator if you have any questions regarding specific content of the workshop.
These refund policies are in place because workshops have limited space and this is intended to ensure we are able to offer the space to another attendee if notice is provided far enough in advance.
