POETIC JUSTICE PROJECT SUMMER PICNIC!
Poetic Justice Project, Santa Maria's theatre company of formerly incarcerated actors, will celebrate nine years of unlocking hearts and minds with bold, original theatre at its fundraising dinner on Monday, June 26. The Summer Picnic dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Branch Street Deli, 203 E. Branch St., Arroyo Grande.

The Summer Picnic menu includes beef burgers, turkey burgers, Mediterranean pasta salad, Caesar salad, fresh fruit salad, beverages and dessert. Local singer Amaris Laurette Taylor will provide entertainment.

Amaris Laurette Taylor is a 2011 graduate of the Pacific Conservatory for Performing Arts (PCPA). In addition to PCPA productions, Ms. Taylor appeared as a singing warden in Poetic Justice Projects 2014 production of In The Kitchen With A Knife. She sings with the San Luis Obispo band Zen Mountain Poets, and with a touring Roy Orbison tribute show.

Poetic Justice Project, a program of the William James Association, began in January 2009 in Santa Maria, with the mission of advancing social justice by engaging formerly incarcerated people in original theatre that examines crime, punishment and redemption.

Almost 100 formerly incarcerated people have acted in 16 Poetic Justice Project plays. And more than 5,000 Californians have seen at least one Poetic Justice Project play. The $40 Summer Picnic dinner ticket includes a free raffle ticket for the door prize, a handmade quilt. Art items will also be auctioned.
