Eco-Theater Lab + PLUTO (no longer a play)
We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction-- this time, the culprit is us. As a result of pollution, deforestation, and climate change, we are on track to lose half of all species on Earth by the end of the century. To prevent further damage would require serious action to change our business practices and ways of life, as well as a recalibration of our anthropocentric point of view. In the face of such great challenges and inevitable loss, how do we move forward? On May 20, spend the day with Superhero Clubhouse exploring this complex topic through collaborative creation and performance.
ECO-THEATER LAB Saturday May 20, 2pm-6pm Featuring biologist Sergio Botero, researcher at Rockefeller University. Hearty snacks provided. Our signature workshop begins with a presentation of research by an environmental scientist and culminates in a presentation of original short performances made by participants. Through a series of guided exercises led by directors Jeremy Pickard & Lanxing Fu, participants will practice Superhero Clubhouse's three tools of eco-theater: Impossible Questions, Imposed Limitations, and Tangible Hope. The Lab is designed for a mixed group of environmental experts, theater artists, and other disciplines. Don't identify as an artist? You are welcome and encouraged to participate!
PLUTO (no longer a play) Saturday May 20, 8pm 75 minutes PLUTO is a strange and hopeful allegory about extinction. Three humans attempt to give a presentation about the remains of a play that no longer exists. The fragments seem to suggest the story of a unicorn, a hunter, and a wizard, all struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Facing similar dilemmas, the three humans reenact their findings, searching for hope among the bones.
