DINNER & A MOVIE
FRESH FROZEN. Tony Nguyen, Director

An intimate look at a small, Black-owned sandwich shop in a fast changing neighborhood in Oakland, California. The short documentary follows Teena Johnson, a 62 year-old woman who makes "the best fish sandwich in The Town." But everything around her little shop is rapidly developing to cater to young, affluent professionals, and the future of her business is uncertain due to skyrocketing rents. As American cities struggle to address issues of affordability and displacement, the film offers an uplifting portrait of an individual's grit and determination to fulfill dreams in the face of a shifting urban landscape.

HEADMASTER. Director, Debo Johnson

A barbershop owner is faced with a tough decision when his neighborhood starts to get upgraded and his shop gets put up for sale by the Landlord.

ONE EIGHTIETH OF ZANG TIANVI. Director Shuhan Fan

When Zhang Tianyi, a 25-year-old Mao Zedong fan, graduates from the most prestigious law school in China in 2014, he is one of 8 million young Chinese who compete for new jobs in Beijing. To stand out, Zhang Tianyi makes an outrageous career choice: He opens a small restaurant to sell rice noodles in the style of his hometown in Hunan. But people walk into his restaurant not because of the food, but because of the star that he is: The bombastic iconoclast has attracted more than half a million social media followers, by promoting his philosophy and branding himself as the Great Leader of this communist economic kingdom. The controversial character with his unconventional success is a manifestation of the conflicts and struggles in China's millennial generation.
