Eliot Cardinaux Quartet at the Mandorla Music Series
I'm pleased to present pianist & poet Eliot Cardinaux with a new quartet featuring Jeb Bishop on trombone, Kit Demos on bass & Gary Fieldman on drums.
Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1984, poet, pianist, and composer Eliot Cardinaux has worked in the improvised music world for over 15 years. He currently lives in Boston, where he works as well as in New York City, and in Copenhagen, Denmark with musicians such as Mat Maneri, Thomas Morgan, Kresten Osgood, Eivind Opsvik, Asger Thomsen, and Flin van Hemmen. He is known within the free-improvising community on the East Coast and in parts of Europe for his light-handed touch at the piano, and for his patience and clarity in developing ideas within the framework of music and poetry. He has been published in Caliban, Big Big Wednesday, Hollow, and Bloodroot Literary Journal. He is also the founder of The Bodily Press. Cardinaux performs and records regularly, with groups and musicians such as American Thicket, Gestures, The Gown of Entry, and Magpie, as well as in miscellaneous groups, and in a solo setting. He has appeared on recordings released on Fresh Sounds Records, and on Loyal Label, and has penned 12 short collections of poetry to date, including Guide to Torment, timeschange, Leaning Against the Mystery, The Gown of Entry, 21 Leaves, Our Hearts as Thieves, and Nativity. His next poetry release, entitled Mouth like Straw, the Hand Half-Blind, is slated for summer 2017 on The Bodily Press. Cardinauxs first album as a leader, American Thicket, was released in 2016 on Loyal Label, and features Mat Maneri (viola), Thomas Morgan (bass), Flin van Hemmen (drums and percussion), and the author himself (piano, voice, and poetry).
