FROM ROMANIA!!! LIVE MUSIC & DANCE PERFORMANCE
Anacortes Sister Cities Association (ASCA) is once again, bringing the Romanian flavor to the Pacific Northwest. After the Romanian dance group visited the U.S. in August 2011, the Martha Bibescu Children Club(CCMB) from Comarnic, Romania and Anacortes Sister Cities Association signed an International Friendship Protocol.
WHO IS FLORICICA DANCE ENSEMBLE?
Romanian Dance Ensemble Floricica is a group that promotes Romanian folkdances, customs and traditions. They are one of the last groups that are still trying to keep traditions and folklore alive, folklore that represents their roots, heritage and that brings joy to all humans. It was founded in 2004 by people who loved folklore and its customs and traditions. At this point, the group has around 80 children and teenagers attending the folkdance classes. The students are between 5 and 27 years old.
Our local Romanian dance instructor, Anamaria Dulama-Lovric from Anacortes, was one of their teachers, before she moved to the U.S. in 2013. The dance ensemble has a variety of dances in its repertoire, such as dances from Oltenia (the famous Calus dance), Muntenia area the region they also come from, Transylvania ( dances from Oas and Ardeal), Moldova region and other minority dances like Basarabia Gispy dance or gipsy dances of Romania.
Until this day, Floricica Dance Ensemble not only traveled all around Europe for International competitions and shows (Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, etc) but also visited the U.S.A. in 2011.
WHO IS BARADACHE LIVE BAND?
Baradache Band is a local group from Comarnic, playing accordion, keyboard, saxophone and it is accompanied by their beautiful voice, Irina Mierlita. In fact, the Baradache Band is formed by an entire family of artists: mother, father, son, daughter and nephew. The band plays all around Romania for big festivities like weddings, baptism parties and other events. Their repertoire will impress you, as they play music from all-folklore regions of Romania but also music that belongs to other minorities in Romania, such as gipsy. The group started in the late '80s.
WHO IS SILVIA BORDEIANU?
Silvia , a young lady from Bacau Moldova, northern part of Romania started singing when she was only 7 years old. Performing music from northern part of Romania and not only, Silvia Bordeianu participated in international and national folklore competitions along her career. Her logo is: I want to be the reason that people smile. Come listen to her beautiful voice and songs at one of the groups performance this coming August.
