Joni Mitchell Jazz Tribute
THIS EVENT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 16TH. ALL TICKETS WILL BE HONORED. Playing popular hits from her critically acclaimed jazz albums: Shadows & Light; Hejira; Mingus; Miles of Aisles; Court & Spark; and The Hissing of Summer Lawns. The seven-member group includes four Newtowners: Leslie Ballard (flute, vocals), Steve Zerlin (bass), Roger Post (drums) and Matt Spencer (percussion) with Tony DePaolo (guitar), Steve Moran (sax), and Christian Martirano (keyboards).
Concert is open to the public. The theater concession stand will be open.
This is a tribute to a premier songwriter, guitarist, singer, and producer. Joni's name appears on many lists of superlatives: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.
Joni Mitchell crossed the bridge from folk diva to jazz artist easily, hiring Tom Scott and the LA Express for her tour and Grammy-winning album "Miles of Aisles." Next, touring and recording with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, Don Alias, Wayne Shorter, Peter Erskine. She collaborated with jazz legend Charles Mingus on her album "Mingus." Jazz pianist Herbie Hancock dedicated an entire album to interpreting her songs, "River: the Joni Letters."
