Ian Maksin ZARIA album release tour West Elm Palo Alto
Ian Maksin: Album Release Concert: ZARIA where the Earth ends and music begins... Sephardic, Persian, Balkan, Russian, French songs, R&B and much more!
5:00pm All Ages Admission: $20
ZARIA: Internationally known for his unique ability to blend different genres and styles, cellist, composer and vocalist Ian Maksin is taking his concept to yet a new orbit with the release of his album Zaria. From Persia and Sephardic Spain to Macedonia and Bulgaria, from Georgia and Armenia to Russia and Belarus, Maksin takes you on a magical journey while singing in six different languages and accompanying himself on the cello. The album also features covers of Jacques Brels iconic Amsterdam and Bill Withers R&B classic Aint No Sunshine with a brand new twist, as well as two of Maksin's new original instrumental compositions inspired by the rhythms of the Balkans, flamenco arabe, pagan Slavic chants, Mississippi blues and Argentine milonga. Minimalistically orchestrated with percussion, acoustic bass and occasional cameos by the middle Eastern string instrument oud, the albums sound is blended together by the cello as a leading common element throughout.
Guest artist: Didem Kurt - kanun
