QTC's 2017-2018 SEASON
Horton Foote's "A Coffin in Egypt" in rep with Conor McPherson's "St Nicholas" November 15 - December 17, 2017
QTC marks its 20th Anniversary season by celebrating two of its very favorite playwrights with two actors who have excelled in bringing their works to life. Horton Footes masterpiece, "The Trip to Bountiful", was blessed by Jane Squier Bruns performance as Carrie Watts. Footes "A Coffin in Eqypt", starring Bruns, provides a moving tale of the dramatic life of a ninety-year-old Texas widow. Conor McPhersons early St Nicholas helped to establish his reputation as a young playwright. The tale is of a Dublin theatre critic who runs into vampires while following an actress to London. This is an ideal choice for Steve Beall, who has triumphed with McPhersons plays such as "Port Authority", "The Seafarer", and "Shining City". QTC Artistic Director Jack Sbarbori, renowned for his productions of plays by Foote and McPherson, directs both "A Coffin in Egypt" and "St Nicholas."
*****PLEASE NOTE! "A Coffin in Egypt" and "St Nicholas" will be performed at the Writer's Center on alternating dates, with each performance counting as a single show for the 2017-2018 subscriber flex plan (4 plays + one Bring-a-Friend ticket). Performance dates/times will be posted on QTC's website at www.quotidiantheatre.com and on QTC's postcards going out to all subscribers.*****
Harold Brighouse's "Hobson's Choice" February 16 - March 11, 2018
In this hilarious comedy of turn-of-the-century Lancashire manners, curmudgeonly cobbler Henry Hobson faces the ultimate choice: take a life with three daughters and keep them in his shop forever unmarried (and save staff wages and dowry money), or let them wed their sweethearts and leave him all alone (with no business). Eldest daughter Maggie (Rebecca Ellis) has a plan to thread the bootmaking needle and she has inherited her father's strong will to make it happen! QTC presents this slice-of-life play that the Guardian says has "shades of King Lear and Taming of the Shrew... as well-made and comfortable as a stout pair of boots." Directed by David Dubov with assistance from Washington Stage Guild director/actor Laura Giannarelli.
An Irish Twist on William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" July 25 - August 12, 2018 at the old Round House Theater in Silver Spring
Shakespeare's enchanted woods replete with faeries, quarreling lovers, and ridiculous rude mechanicals are transported to a Regency drawing room in rural Ireland. Live Irish music, dance, and Yeats' poetry are sure to cast a spell! Adapted and directed by Stephanie Mumford and Leah Mazade with assistance from Folger Shakespeare Theatre dramaturg Michele Osherow and traditional Irish music/history expert Peter Brice. Irish dance choreography by Catherine Marafino. Featuring John Allnutt, Grant Cloyd, John Decker, David Dubov, Catherine Marafino, Leah Mazade, Laura Rocklyn, Ian Blackwell Rogers, Laura Russell, and Addison Switzer.
*****PLEASE NOTE! Due to renovations at the Writer's Center (QTC's home), "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be performed at the old Round House Theater at 12210 Bushey Dr Silver Spring, MD from July 25 thru August 12, 2018. Performance dates/times will be posted on QTC's website at www.quotidiantheatre.com and on QTC's postcards going out to all subscribers.*****
Prized by its patrons for its intimate stagings, QTC specializes in productions of naturalistic plays about the truth and beauty in everyday "quotidian" life. This boutique theater caters to those who enjoy thinking about--and discussing with friends after the show--the meaning of a great play. Located within walking distance of Bethesda's renowned restaurant district, there are plenty of fine places to eat and/or drink before or after the play. On Saturdays and Sundays, parking is free in the public lot directly across from the Writer's Center, where QTC is the resident theater company. QTC is easily accessible by car or Metro (red line to Bethesda stop).
