As part of our "Yet She Is Fierce" season, the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival presents "The Merry Wives of Windsor," directed by Dawn Tucker. This citizen comedy is a lively portrait of Elizabethan England in which Shakespeare leaves the realm of royal intrigue and follows the laughable, if not always lovable, Sir John Falstaff off the battlefield and into a romantic fray. Sir John's would-be lovers band together to give the scheming knight his comeuppance in a hilarious tale that anticipates the screwball comedy of 20th-century film but retains the Bard's signature wit and sophistication. You'll cheer aloud for the cheeky women of Windsor as they band together, and stick up for themselves, to find, reignite, and maintain their romances.
For the best seats, come early! All performances are outdoors beneath a canvas roof, with contingencies for monsoon weather. Please dress for the weather and feel free to bring a blanket!
