6-time Grand National Fiddle Champion siblings Tristan and Tashina Clarridge are joined by hammer dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman. Together, they weave a tapestry of sound all their own, drawing on roots in bluegrass, Celtic, jazz and old-time traditions.
This time, they're hosting an intergenerational collaboration, offering a taste of the musical community that gathers around their fabled Shasta Music Summit.
Featuring banjo virtuoso & Ph.D ethnomusicologist Ben Krakauer, powerhouse vocalist and bluegrass guitarist Daisy Kerr (age 12), jazz phenomenon CJ Neary (10), articulate folk cellist Aerie Walker (14), adept songwriters and bluegrass multi-instrumentalists Lela Miatke (16) & Rainy Miatke (14), inventive bluegrass fiddler Miles Quale (13), mandolin groove master Teo Quale (11), and led by Tristan & Tashina Clarridge and hammer dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman (The Bee Eaters).
Ben Krakauer is a five-string banjo player and multi-instrumentalist with roots in bluegrass, jazz, and old-time music. He was a founding member of the bluegrass/jazz/Latin/pop string band Old School Freight Train. In 2005-2006, he toured and performed with legendary mandolinist and Dawg music founder David Grisman.
Tristan and Tashina Clarridge began learning violin at age two, (studying baroque from Rob Diggins and fiddling from Megan Lynch) and have spent the past 3 decades immersed in a broad range of rich musical learning environments. Introduced early on to the life-changing community of music camps, they studied from luminaries such as Darol Anger, Alasdair Fraser, Mark OConnor, Bruce Molsky, Natalie MacMaster, and others. Through the freedom of self-directed home-schooling and natural rural lifestyle, they were encouraged and nurtured to explore what they loved most, eventually leading them down a life path of music.
To share and strengthen the interwoven connectedness of music, community, and culture, Tashina and Tristan Clarridge co-founded the Shasta Music Summit, uniting the highest level of musical masterminds with students of all ages, for a series of workshops and all-star concerts, in a holistic community environment. Now in its 13th year, the Shasta Music Summit is revered by many as a powerful musical and social melting pot. This tour will showcase some of those inter-generational connections and collaborations that have evolved at Shasta over the years.
