Orchestra of New Spain
Community Series is proud to bring The Orchestra of New Spain for a one night only concert Saturday November 17th at 7:30pm in Austin College's Wynne Chapel. This concert will reflect their two international tours from the past six months, which includes little known music of the Spanish Baroque and the baroque periods of Mexico and Bolivia's easternmost region, Chiquitania, near the headwaters of the Amazon. With rhythmic influences of Africa and of the indigenous of South America, and the melodic influence of Spanish Europe, their program will cover a time when the Spanish influence was giving way to the local cultures of the Americas.
The Orchestra of New Spain is now in its 24th season, being regularly featured in the Dallas Arts District theaters, and throughout the Metroplex. The 20 member company just returned from a most successful series of three concerts in the Festival Cervantino de Mexico.
