Imagine yourself relaxing on a steamboat as it lazily floats down the Mississippi River all the way to The Big Easy. Suddenly, the band strikes up a tune, music fills the air and everyone is on their feet, clapping, dancing and singing along. Welcome to the world of Roosevelt Dime, a five-piece, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based band that blends elements of acoustic jug-band blues, classic New Orleans soul and neo-folk to create an original sound best described as Kings County Steamboat Soul. The band's nontraditional lineup consisting of banjo, electric and washtub basses, percussion, trumpet and woodwinds and seamless mixture of musical genres has been described as "a perpetual crowd-pleaser" by the New York Times. Now, the group is poised for a breakthrough with its new album Steamboat Soul. Roosevelt Dime has just been featured in No Depression, On Your Radar with WFUV's John Platt, and official showcases at the North East Regional, and International Folk Alliance in 2011. So hop aboard the S.S. Rosie and get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
Don't be fooled by the name. Three Tall Pines is an award winning quartet playing bluegrass and Americana from the heart of New England. Though their faces are young, the group's timeless originals and interpretations of traditional songs persuade listeners that bygone eras were just a short while ago. Impressive instrumentalists in their own right, they transcend their diverse musical backgrounds to achieve soulful harmonies and sensitive performances that draw audiences in and leave plenty of space for the story to shine through.
Recently the band has caught the eye of many critics in their first few years together. Named 2011 Bluegrass Band of the Year by the Motif Arts Magazine and winner of the Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Festival band competition, securing them a slot on the main stage in 2012.
