Alternative Solutions: Responding to the Opioid Crisis
Sunday May 21st at 11:30 am | Doors open at 11:00 am Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Center (3940 Broadway) FREE EVENT | FREE BRUNCH
Please join us for a free educational event on life-saving alternatives to public injection and overdose from other countries. Featuring expert perspectives by Tony Trimingham (Australia) and Liz Evans (Canada), this event will focus on what strategies have worked in other countries to reduce harms related to street drug use, especially opioid use.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Australia: Presented by Tony Trimingham Tony is a psychotherapist who lost his son in a tragic heroin overdose event at the young age of 22. This led Tony to take up a lifetime of helping families of drug users by founding Family Drug Support in Australia. He was instrumental in advocating for the Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre that provides help to hundreds of drug users every day.
Canada: Presented by Liz Evans Liz is the Executive Director of New York Harm Reduction Educators and Washington Heights CORNER Project, NYCs largest network of syringe exchange service provision. Arriving as a nurse in one of Canadas poorest communities, Liz fought for and created numerous services that helped to transform the way drug users are seen and treated. People who were previously dying from overdose deaths and being infected with HIV found dignity in housing, care, and supports including Insite, the only place in North America where people can legally use injection drugs.

All donations will go to support educational events around drug policy and substance use.
