Pismo Preserve Guided Education Tour/Strenuous Hike -- Prof. Randy Knight
Monday June 12, 2017 10am-1pm Pismo Reserve (attendees will receive directions on how to get there) $5 for LLCC members, $10 for non-members
On this strenuous field-trip/hike on the Pismo Preserve Land Conservancy Vice President Randy Knight will introduce you to the cultural history and geology of the site. On this hike you will see all of the native plants that are found in coastal sage scrub and oak forests.
Pismo Preserve is a spectacular 980 acre parcel purchased by the Land Conservancy of SLO County to protect its scenic, cultural, and conservation resources.
Randy will also talk to you about the long-term restoration and management of a site like this.
The outing will move slowly as we stop to look at things, but we will walk 2 miles on trails with 350 feet of elevation gain. Participants will need to wear sturdy walking shoes and should bring sunscreen, water, a jacket, and a hat.
Pleas note that because the construction of the ADA trail hasn't happened yet, there is no level ground for a group to walk on. All trails will have some incline. We will be able to definitely pick the mild/easy routes, but it could still be challenging for you.
This hike/field trip is for "avid, regular hikers." This hike could be compared to Johnson Ranch loop in terms of intensity and incline.
Randy Knight is a retired Cal Poly Physics Professor and is Vice President of the Land Conservancy Board of Trustees. He is a Master Docent at Pismo Preserve and primary author of the guidebook used to train new docents. Additional Pismo Preserve docents will be there to assist.
