Kalapriya Presents Prerna - A Workshop Intensive by Priya Venkataraman
We are excited to announce the return of our popular workshop series Prerna by world renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, Priya Venkataraman!
*Note: We have combined Prathama and Madhyama levels.
Prerna: Level I & II August 21 - September 1 4:00 - 7:00 PM
Prerna Moksha: Advanced August 26 - 27 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
This year, Prerna for Level I and Level II will span 2 weeks (Monday - Friday) and attendees of the workshops will have the opportunity to perform in a brand new production at Ragamala, part of Chicago's World Music Festival, on September 8. Ragamala is annual free event co-hosted byCity of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Kalapriya Foundation. Held at the Chicago Cultural Center, Ragamala boasts audience attendance of over 1000 and continues to grow in size.
Priya Venkataraman is known for her adherence to the classical traditional repertoire. She received her early training under Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan and continues her training with Guru A. Lakshman and Mrs. Bragha Bessell. Priya has been teaching Bharatanatyam since 1989, for over 25 years. She taught at Ganesa Natyalaya, New Delhi before starting her own school "Kalakriti" in Illinois. Six of her students were awarded the master-apprentice grant from the Illinois Arts Council for advanced training under her, during her stay in the United States. Priya has also conducted many residencies in schools across the US. She was on the roster of the artists-in-residence program of the Illinois Arts Council for 8 years.
