"Celestial Voices" - a Holiday Concert by the Young Women's Chorus of San Francisco
Be transported to the heavens by the Young Women's Chorus of San Francisco and harpist Karen Gottlieb. Benjamin Britten's, A Ceremony of Carols, is featured as well as music by Handl, Mendelssohn, Verdi, La Rocca, and other carols of the season.
In its inaugural season, Young Women's Chorus of San Francisco presents concerts in the Bay Area in December, March and June. The mission of the YWC is to transform the lives of young women through exceptional artistry in choral performance and bring the expressive power of their music to the community, the nation, and the world. Under the artistic leadership of Dr. Susan McMane, the YWC provides talented young women ages 11-18 from across the San Francisco Bay Area with exceptional musical and interpersonal experiences. The chorus will take its first concert tour to Italy in June 2013.
Dr. Susan McMane, Artistic Director and Conductor, is a world-renowned choral conductor specializing in treble choral music. For eleven years, Dr. McMane was Artistic Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus where she oversaw the music education of 400 girls age 5 through 18 and achieved national and international acclaim for its touring chorus. Among many honors, she has won three GRAMMY awards with the SF Symphony, including "Best Classical Recording" and "Best Choral Performance" as well as two Adventurous Programming Awards by ASCAP and Chorus America.
