A Dinner to Decolonize: Roots, Rhythm & Resistance from the Kitchen to your Plate
People's Kitchen (PK) is a sliding-scale grassroots community food project that couples political education and movement building with a local, organic meal that is lovingly prepared by community chefs. Each monthly People's Kitchen raises donations for local grassroots political projects and celebrating the foods of communities and cultures in struggle. It is based out of Oakland, CA and has operated in 3 countries. The goal of The People's Kitchen is not only to fill our stomachs but to also nourish our souls, feed our minds, and fuel a movement.
R3: (Roots Rhythms Resistance) is an artists' collective recovering indigenous roots and resisting colonial oppression through music, dance, visual art and theatre for and by marginalized peoples, with a particular focus on Queer Indigenous and Queer communities of colour. R3 believes that food and recipes are powerful tools for storytelling and reclaiming community knowledge. R3 believes that sharing food and building community knowledge are key to the process of decolonization.
R3 Collective is partnering with The People's Kitchen to inviting you and other important stakeholders of our communities to join us for a delicious collective meal to discuss:
Imagining a decolonized future free from oppressions, centering on relations between racialized and First Nations people in Canada/Turtle Island,
R3 Artists Collective's engagement in community.
There will be a variety of performances from R3 coupled with a multi-course meal brought to you by The People's Kitchen.
We hope you will join us for this vibrantly delicious meal.
